[NI0558] Hi Dorie,

I visited the Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton, VA today and your Herbert Taylor Wilkerson and the Herbert T. Taylor that I did list in my Conner database are one and the same.
He is buried in the same plat (Lot 25) with both his wives. Here is what I now have on him:

The data on Stella Julia's stone does not give her maiden name. If you would be so kind as to send me the information you have on his children, grandchildren, etc., I would be most grateful. This will allow me to expand this branch of the family.

By the way, when I stopped at the Thornrose Cemetery office to ask for help in finding his grave, they told me that someone else was in earlier that morning asking how to find his gravesite. Was that you?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Clyde

Hello Clyde,
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. This was my first try at locating my family. This is going to be addictive I bet. LOL It does sound like it might be the same Herbet T Wilkerson. I wish I could run to the cemetery and check on it right now. I am house bound right now though and can't. It will answer questions since his first wife is buried right beside him also.
I would be interested in learning what happened with his first wife and children if it is him. I can tell you he sounds like he was a mean man. He died when I was 5 yrs old so I really don't remember him. I know he was always threatening his children after his second wife died, telling them that he would put them in an orphanage.
I also was told that at one time he owned a good chunk of Staunton. He liquidated and gave his children from the first marriage the funds when he had a second family. Something about a son from the first marriage causing an uproar about never seeing his inheritance since he had a new family. I was told that once that son got his money my grandfather never saw him again. If this is the same Herbert Taylor, I hope this info helps you know some of your family history.
I look forward to hearing from you again once you can get to the cemetery.
Thank you,
Dorie

Dear Clyde,

I am so excited! Thank you for getting back to me. As I said You were my first stab at finding family info.
When I get any info together I will send it to you. I can tell you a little now.
He had four children by his second wife. Herbert T. jr, Carlyle, Lee Roy, and Evelyn (Collins).
Herbert T jr is still alive, and lives in GA I belive. He had three children by his first wife Lizzy (Elizabeth?). None by his second wife Martha.
Carlyle married Martha (?) and they had no children. He died two years ago, was living in Staunton.
Lee Roy married Geneva Elizabeth Burks from Clifton Forge, VA. (her parents were Carl Andrew and Camilla (Blankenship) Burks, both died and are buried in Clifton Forge,VA.) They had three children. David Lee,
Andrew Taylor, and Doretta Lynne. David had four children. Melissa Joan, Tonya Denise (died from sids), Brian, and Jeffrey David. Andrew and Doretta had no children.
Evelyn married Herman Collins. They had three children. Billy, Eddie, and Sarah Jean (Talbot~Married Hunter Talbot).
I am pretty sure my grandmother Stella was a Griever. She died at home in Staunton from Cancer. She had a sister named Laura who never married.
That's what I know right off hand. What else would you like to know?
Thank you so much for getting back to me. I have always been curious about my grandfathers first family. Could you tell me about Nubies children? Who and how many etc? I don't know why but that name is really sticking with me, I know it. If I ever find out why and it is of interest I will be sure to let you know.
Thank you again. Oh, it was not me at the cemetery. I wish I knew who it was. LOL
Best wishes in your search,
Doretta Hanger
