Clyde,
I spent some time at the Rockbridge Library yesterday and came across this obituary which you may already have:
"Rockbridge County News, Thursday, Sept 7, 1933
Mr. John H. Conner Died at Rockbridge Alum Springs
Goshen RFD, Sept 5 -- Mr. John H. Conner died at his home on Bratton's Run near Rockbridge Alum Springs, Sept 3, 1933 at noon.
Mr. Conner was 76 years of age and had been in failing health for several years. He was one of the oldest residents of the Bratton's Run valley and was a good neighbor and friend and a devoted father.
He is survived by five sons and three daughters: Charles and Floyd of Montgomery, W. Va; Earl and Amanda of Washington, DC; Miss Lillie of Staunton, and Mrs. S.H. Rapp of Clifton Forge; David and Luther at home. His wife was Miss Laura Plott who died in 1920.
Funeral services were conducted at the home Monday at 3pm by Rev. L.O. Rose of the Goshen Methodist church of which Mr. Conner was a member, in the presence of a large number of his neighbors, friends, and relatives. Interment was made in the Bratton's Run cemetery by the side of his wife. Floral tribute was beautiful."
I don't know if "Mrs. S.H. Rapp" was Ada or Minnie or Mary. And I assume that James H. Conner and the other girls had preceeded him in death? There is an "F. Conner" living on White Rock Road, which is in the vicinity of Plott land. But I was too embarrassed to stop and knock on the door. Have you uncovered anything else about this side of the family?
Billie
Marriage record give Laura Vess 18 single when she married John H. Conner in 1881 and that her mother was Betsy.

Clyde,
Thanks for your post on Laura Vest Conner. I know that you also were in touch with my sister, Billie Cooke, on the subject.
We've found out quite a bit on Laura. We now know her parents (John A. Plott and Elizabeth Vest), Grandparents (Abraham Plott m Polly Gaylor; and Hiram Vest and Julia Cokenour), and her ggparents (Henry Plott m Catherine
Entsminger (abt 1797)...and on the Vest side I'm working it out now. Let me know if you are interested, and I'll get you the details of dates, children, etc.
Laura's mother, Elizabeth Vest, lived as a border in 1860 with Sarah and William Tolley. William Tolley is thought to have died in the Civil War. And Sarah died soon thereafter. Sounds to me as if her life was full of challenges. Betty's family at this point. I think her father Hiram died about the time of her birth. I guess that's why she was a border.
Laura's father was a prisoner in the Civil War in Camp Chase, Md. Her uncle William, gave allegiance to the North and I don't think married. Her uncle Joseph married Virginia Forbes and her uncle Abraham married Elizabeth
Hostetter.
Are you in Rockbridge? Have you ever seen White Rock Rd?
